Telephone Scam Alert
Vishing Scam Attempts to Gather CFCU Account Information!

Have You Received An Automated Phone Call Claiming To Be Chino Federal Credit Union?

An ongoing telephone scam is calling people throughout southwest New Mexico and claiming that their Chino Federal Credit Union account or credit card has been blocked. The message then prompts you for your debit or credit card number and other sensitive account information.

This automated phone call is a scam and should be disregarded! Do NOT provide any information to this caller!

Your account is secure provided that you do not provide any information to the caller. If you did give out your account information, you need to call us immediately at 575 388-2511 and inform us of the situation.

Chino Federal Credit Union is NOT making these phone calls. We are currently working with law enforcement and other organizations to put a stop to these calls.

About Vishing: Vishing is the voice counterpart to phishing. Instead of being directed by e-mail to a web site, a telephone message asks the user to provide your account information. The call triggers a voice response system that asks the user’s card number or other personal or financial information. Additionally, the phone number displayed in caller ID may be forged. The initial bait can also be a telephone call with a recording that instructs the user to phone an 800 number or another area code within or outside of the United States.

Objectives of the Identity Thief:

  • Account Takeover
Your account information is used to purchase goods and services, or to transfer your funds overseas. Victims learn of it when they receive their monthly statements
  • Account Fraud
The thief uses your account information to open new accounts under your name using a false address. Victims tend to learn about this when they request a credit report or apply for credit and are then denied
If You Believe That Your Identity Has Been Stolen:
  • Call Chino Federal Credit Union immediately at 575 388-2511 and inform us of the situation. Ask to place a fraud alert on your account
  • Contact one of the three major credit bureaus and discuss weather you need to place a fraud alert on your file:
